Foghorn Brewery was born of a dream to make craft beer the way it ought to be made—from grain to glass all under one roof.
The historic building in King Street had been abandoned for several years when we first set foot inside. In that dusty old warehouse, we saw the potential to create something really special.
And so it was that Newcastle’s first modern craft brewery opened its doors in April 2015. The town’s industrial roots have played a big part in shaping the unique character of Foghorn Brewery. Built from the ground up, this art deco era warehouse with exposed roof trusses now houses a custom 1800 litre brewery.
There has been a brewery on this Hunter Valley site since 2003 – one of the first of its kind in the state.
Keith Grice has been brewing here since 2007 and has built a reputation for quality, multi-award winning beers, while being just about the best bloke in the industry. Hunter Beer Co. and Keith were founders of Craft Beer in Wine Country and have built an enviable reputation for quality and variety at the Nulkaba site.
Foghorn Brewery is proud to bring this experience and quality into our company with Foghorn Hunter being a natural fit for the expansion and growth of our brand. We’ve updated the cellar door and have big plans for the growth of the on-site brewery – watch this space!
What hasn’t changed is the focus on quality and the brew team – Keith and Daniel are still brewing their long established favourites like Slaked Magpie Vanilla Milk Porter, Hunter Bock, Cranky Pants IPA, and of course their flagship Hunter Kolsch – now given the prominence it deserves as the rebranded Trophy winning Hunter Classic.
Come and visit when you are in the Hunter for a tasting of the whole Foghorn range. The team’s brewery tours and guided tastings are the best in the business and are a must for any visit to the Hunter.
